ARIEL - BUZZ THE BEE
Ariel On The Cliff in Stechford

We believe that all children and young people have the right to experience theatre which communicates directly with them, responding to their needs and concerns. Sadly, more and more children don’t have this chance: child poverty is growing very fast and subsidised trips to the theatre are increasingly rare.

In Birmingham, there are large areas with hardly any arts provision for children growing up in poverty. Some of these children also have limited spoken English, which can make it harder for them to access / enjoy theatre.

So far, we’ve focussed our work on two areas on our doorstep where children have much less access to theatre: Sparkbrook and Bordesley Green. We’re now expanding this to include other similar areas nearby.

We tour our plays to community centres, libraries, schools, nurseries, and healthcare settings in these areas, meeting lots of children and parents, including many who’ve never experienced theatre before.

Almost all of these performances are free to attend, with grateful thanks to our generous funders, who support individual projects in these areas (and have included The Sir Barry Jackson Trust and Arts Council England).

We’re always keen to meet new partners, venues, and supporters who want to get involved with our work in Birmingham: drop us a line on hello@cloudcuckooclub.com if you’d like to find out more!
